Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia–this despite the fact that Lewis wove animism, Greek philosophy, and Roman mythology into his parabolic communication of Christian truth. Why did so many evangelical Christians have a negative reaction to this novel, given that evangelical Christianity has embraced C.S. John and that it had been derided as Heresy by Mark Driscoll.

It hadn’t helped that it was endorsed by leading evangelicals, including Eugene Peterson (The Message), J. So I sighed and read it and was pleasantly surprised. I was very cynical about it until young members in the choir started enthusing about it and then an old and very liberal lady in the congregation spoke to me about it.

This book was all the rage in Christian (I was going to say ‘evangelical’ but it went wider than that) circles.
